The CORE Strategic Planning Executive Development Program immerses participants in the Company’s strategy initiatives and Strategic Planning process. Participants work closely with executives to analyze all aspects of the business as an integral part of the Strategic Planning process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support strategy initiatives with rigorous analytics, facilitation, and primary and secondary research. Includes modeling economics, identifying potential risks and challenges for implementation, and prioritizing opportunities.
  • Analyze company financial and operational performance (e.g., drivers of historical performance, trends over time, etc.).
  • Understand customer behaviors and trends.
  • Assess market characteristics and trends (e.g., market segment sizes, growth rates, market shares of key competitors and how they are changing over time and why, critical recent developments, and sources of competitive advantage).
  • Help to identify and analyze company platforms for growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field
  • Ability to relocate to the Chesapeake, Virginia area
  • Ability to travel

The CORE Strategic Planning Executive Development Program provides a foundation for future Dollar Tree leaders. Participants gain a broad perspective of the retail industry and Dollar Tree while developing sharp analytical skills.

Strategic Planning at Dollar Tree works with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to set the strategic agenda for the company through the development and management of strategic initiatives. These strategic initiatives cover all key business functions at Dollar Tree, including Store Operations, Merchandise, Real Estate, Logistics, Marketing, and Human Resources.

Trainees support the overall strategic planning process and serve as key members of various strategic initiative teams (typically working on one or two initiatives at a time).

Elements of the CORE Strategic Planning Executive Development Program include:

  • Targeted professional development courses with high participation, group discussions, and practice sessions.
  • Specialized technical development via one-on-one, classroom, and on-the-job training.
  • Timely assessments and frequent feedback (formal and informal).

After approximately three years in the program, participants are encouraged to explore other CORE programs to continue their development as a future leader of Dollar Tree.
