Attempting to prepare for the "what if's" of life, I began searching for bulk candles that could be used to light my home in the event of an extended loss of power. At $.50 per candle, these were the least expensive 10" tapered candles that I could find in bulk. I also opted to have these shipped to my local Dollar Tree store to save shipping costs.
I was skeptical regarding the 10 hour life of the candle and decided to test one in a controlled environment (little activity with minimal air circulation related to fans, vents, etc.). I was surprised to learn that the candle actually lasted 9.5 hours (burned until it extinguished itself). I did not trim the wick or alter the candle in any way. Additionally, there was no detectable scent. Each candle was individually wrapped in plastic and seemed to be of good quality.
Considering that a single candle will provide light for two nights (approx. 5 hours each night), I plan to purchase an additional 4 cases of these candles. 5 cases = 360 candles = approx. 2 candles per night for a year.
I'm a long term prepper (preparing for the long-term disaster/crisis). If you're not, consider grabbing a case of these for the next rolling blackout or ice storm power outage. Be safe.
