Great for custom designed plates
Using a sharpie pen (also bought at Dollar Tree), I copied portions of our haggadah (Passover script) onto each plate. If you do something like this, let your design set for 24 hours, then place in a cold oven and let it heat up with the plates in it to 350, then bake 2 hours. Don't open the oven for another 24 hours. Allow the plates to cool with the oven. To my delight they've done very well through the dishwasher. Because it's questionable whether sharpie ink is food safe, I didn't use these plates for eating off of. They were on top of the larger, black dinner plates I ordered from Dollar Tree, and we used them for sprinkling the drops of wine for the plagues and peeling our hard boiled eggs.
